🚐 Iceland: How much does a campervan trip through the Land of Ice and Fire really cost?

Iceland is a dream for many travelers—endless lava fields, hot springs, glaciers, and deserted roads winding between waterfalls. It's a country best experienced from the comfort of a campervan , because only then can you stay where you truly want.

Except… Iceland isn't cheap. And how you choose to visit it can double or reduce your budget . So let's compare three viable travel models for a couple looking to spend two weeks in April 2026.

Option 1 - Camper from Poland (via Denmark, ferry to Iceland)

This is an option for those who enjoy the journey itself. It's about 1,200 km from Warsaw to the port of Hirtshals in Denmark, and from there, the Smyril Line ferry sails to Seyưisfjƶrưur (about 3 days each way). This means you'll need 6 days for transportation alone, leaving about 8 days in Iceland.

Assumptions:

  • Mini campervan rental in Poland – 14 days Ɨ PLN 350 = PLN 4,900 (whether it's your own campervan or a rented one doesn't really matter - you'll either cover your own depreciation and servicing costs or pay the rental company for it in the form of a rental fee)

  • Fuel consumption: 7 l/100 km, distance 8,000 km total

  • Fuel: 560 l Ɨ 7.20 PLN/l = 4,032 PLN

  • RT ferry (Hirtshals–Seyưisfjƶrưur, 2 people + minicampervan) = PLN 3,500

  • Motorways + vignettes (DE, DK) = PLN 1,000

  • Transit insurance = PLN 300

āž”ļø Total: ~13,700 PLN

This is the longest and most demanding option – the road is part of the adventure, but it consumes time and fuel.

Option 2 - Flight + car rental

For those who prefer comfort and simplicity: flight, car, accommodation.

Assumptions:

  • Car rental: PLN 350/day Ɨ 14 days = PLN 4,900

  • Fuel consumption: 7 l/100 km, route approx. 2,000 km → 140 l Ɨ PLN 9.50 = PLN 1,330

  • Flights (2 people) = PLN 3,000

  • Accommodation (PLN 500/night Ɨ 14 nights) = PLN 7,000

āž”ļø Total: ~16,200 PLN

This is a comfortable and hassle-free option, but without the freedom to stop wherever you want.

Option 3 - Vanago Fly&Ride Iceland šŸšā„ļø

Vanago combines the simplicity of organization with the freedom of a campervan. We book flights at airline prices (no markup) and deliver a campervan to your destination with full insurance and support. We recommend campervans over minicampers, as a trip to Iceland requires spending more time inside the vehicle, which is less comfortable in a minicampervan.

Assumptions:

  • Campervan rental in Iceland – 14 days Ɨ PLN 600 = PLN 8,400

  • Flights (2 people) = PLN 3,000

  • Fuel (1,500 km Ɨ 7 l/100 km Ɨ 9.50 PLN/l) = 1,000 PLN

  • Vanago package (insurance + technical support and online camping reservations 12/5) = PLN 800

āž”ļø Total: ~13,200 PLN

Complete freedom, safety and organization included – no long voyages or thousands of kilometers to cover.
